Los Altos, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dec. 20, 2002 ? Contek Networks has announced its VT-2400 Extended Range Ethernet product line. Targeted at the market for Multi-Dwelling Units, Hospitality and ?campus? area multi-building environment, the Contek ?first mile? broadband solution is suitable for delivering High-speed Internet services, Video on Demand, Remote video camera surveillance, Voice over IP Telephony, as well as applications in retail, educational and industrial markets.
Contek’s Extended Range Ethernet solution uses the latest Infineon?s VDSL octal chipset that is compatible with FSAN (Full Service Area Network) with QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) modulation and FDD (Frequency Division Multiplexing) to deliver Ethernet packets over existing category 1/2/3 copper wiring, allowing broadband connectivity from 5 Mbps up to15Mbps at a distance of up to 5000 feet (1.5 Km).
The VLAN Switch has 24 VDSL ports and one slot for optional 10/100BaseT, Gigabit or 100FX uplink. There is also a Mini-GBIC slot for an extra GigE interface and the backplane supports switching speed up to 8.8 Gbps. The switch is stackable and manageable to 192 ports under a single IP address — without the need for stacking modules (using IEEE 1394 Firewire ports).
Other advanced features include IEEE 802.1p QoS (Quality of Service) supporting 4 levels of packet priority and mapping of Layer 3 and 4 priorities to CoS (Class of Service) values, up to 255 VLAN (Virtual LAN) groups with port-based VLAN or IEEE 802.1Q VLAN tagging, GVRP for automatic VLAN learning, IGMP Snooping, ability to handle up to 32K MAC addresses, Telnet / Web based management, SNMP and multi-level password access. The switch also supports 4 groups of RMON, MultiLink Trunking, Port Mirroring, Spanning Tree, MAC Filtering, TFTP for saving / restoring configuration settings, and individual port rate limiting in increments of 1Mbps.
CONTEK products are available now with the standard VT-2400 Switch supporting 24 VDSL ports plus one 10/100BaseT uplink port listed for $ 2990. For comparison purpose, the equivalent product from Cisco called Catalyst 2950 LRE switch is listed at $ 4495. The VDSL modem is listed for $ 107 each and the 24-port POTS splitter box that combines PSTN/PBX signal with VDSL signal on the same pairs of telephone wiring is listed for $ 430.
